“Responding to changes is key to survival for any professional education
institution”, feels Sanjay. His vision is simple: strike a balance between
the changes driven by globalization and liberalization and the task of taking
technology to rural India.
With 100-plus institutions in Kolhapur, Pune and Mumbai, the D. Y. Patil
University has established a strong presence in engineering, medical and
other professional streams.
Over the next few years, says Sanjay, the focus would remain on strengthening
engineering and medical courses especially in the super-specialty areas.
“Research particularly in the applied field is another focus area,” he says.
The university has planned specialized laboratories and research centers
in engineering, medical and agricultural studies. Promoting indigenous projects
in the field of energy is also high on Sanjay’s agenda.
However, the major plan is to branch out in areas like biotechnology, telecommunication,
automobile, bio-informatics, genetics, bio-engineering and pharmaceutical,
he said. Similarly, he sees promise in technologies concerning the sugar
industry, horticulture and plant genetics.
“Advanced teaching technologies like virtual class rooms, video conferencing,
etc. will be a part of our routine in the years ahead”, said Sanjay. “Collaboration
with renowned universities will be part of our future strategies”, he said.
